For this month's community service, I was, unfortunately, unable to attend an event I planned to volunteer at with the Second Harvest Food Bank due to a tragedy in my family. We lost our grandfather to COVID/pneumonia complications on October 14th. It's been tough, especially for my mom, but I try to be there for her as much as possible. It was nice to see members of my family that I had not seen in a very long time, but I wish it had not been under those circumstances.

As for school, I am really starting to see just how valuable this program is in everyday life. For instance, before starting this program, I would see pharmacological terms and medicine names being mentioned in TV advertisements, my job at urgent care, etc., and would be slightly intimidated because there was so much I didn't know. Now, I hear them mentioned and I get excited like "OMG, I know what that word means!" or "Hey, we talked about that in lecture!". 

The ANS and CV module was definitely the most intense by far because it built upon so many things learned during previous modules that I had to go back and make sure to really understand. However, it was my favorite module by far. I recently read the book "Make it Stick" and have been employing some of the techniques to modify my study methods, and I can definitely see and feel the difference! It's not 100% YET, but I plan to keep adjusting these study methods until I find that perfect recipe for me! 

The month of October has been a month of ups and downs, both personally and professionally, but I am excited to see what the next month brings!

August Community Service Hours: 3 This has been a month for new beginnings! I am so excited to be able to say that I am now a grad student! Starting graduate school at Tulane has already begun to be a beautiful adventure: practicing efficient study skills, meeting new friends, and taking the next steps toward becoming a competent healthcare provider. March Community Service Hours:  4 Spring Semester Community Service Hours:  16 Ohhh my goodness! Another month has gone by already?!?  Well, my community engagement mission for this month was inspired by the tornados that ripped through Southeastern U.S. on March 24th. One area in particular near Rolling Fork, Mississippi caught my attention while watching the news, as it was reported that one of the tornados that passed through the area had winds up to 170 mph, traveled 60 miles and lasted for over an hour! Photos of the aftermath were heartbreaking, especially when it was reported that at least 26 people had been killed in the storms that rummaged through the Southeast. I decided that this was the time to take action and be of assistance! I began looking for local organizations in the New Orleans area that were accepting donations of items like water and other necessities, but was only able to find organizations accepting MONETARY donations. April Update: Last Blog of the School Year! (sad face)

April Community Service Hours : 2 Spring Semester Community Service Hours : 18 It's the beginning of the end (of our pharmacology program) and I am SO SADDDD!!! This program has been amazing in providing the space for me to grow as a student and young professional... I almost wish I could stay with y'all forever!! But before I go on a tangent about how much I've learned from and enjoyed this program (I'll save it for the survey), let's get to the nitty gritty of this blog post.  For my community service for the month of April, I participated in the Earth Day-inspired event "Keep Louisiana Beautiful" in the area of Algiers in the Morris Jeff Park.
